A biologist by training at the University of Indonesia, Depok, Wahyuni started to work as a part-time translator for a professor of rheumatology at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, Jakarta after her graduation. At the same time, she was volunteering for Konphalindo, an NGO that advocated forestry and environmental issue in Indonesia where she was involved in the publication section.

A year later, Wahyuni joined a patent bureau in Jakarta and worked as a biochemical patent translator. She finished The Writing School, Singapore in 1996. In early 1997, she moved to Pusat Data Analisa Tempo and joined as a translator for Tempo Interaktif. When TEMPO news magazine was republished, she worked as a copyeditor for the magazine until late 1999. In the meantime, she did some translation projects for Institut Studi Arus Informasi; IACA World Awareness Children’s Museum, Glens Falls, New York; and Deutsche Gesselschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ). Two years later, moving to Bali she joined a  tour operator and worked as a content editor for one year.

From 2002-2003,  Wahyuni was a full-time freelance writer and translator. She did translation projects for Danish Red Cross in Jakarta;  International Republican Institute, President Translation Service Group International in Taipei, Taiwan; Yayasan Uli Peduli, PT Unilever; Friedrich Naumann Stiftung, Jakarta; PT Roche Indonesia;  Erlangga Publishing; Voice of Indonesian Human Rights; Bina Desa; Yayasan Kalyanamitra; Bali Advertiser; and Pustaka Primatama that published Karl May’s books in Bahasa Indonesia. She also translated several books from English into Bahasa Indonesia, edited some books, and contributed articles to newspapers and magazines. In 2005 Wahyuni was a fellow of the International Journalisten Programme in Germany, where she was an intern at Suedeutsche Zeitung in Munich and a newspaper in Dresden. Later on, she joined a private company as a full-time copywriter and then an agency where she travels and writes her travel stories in her spare time.

Wahyuni’s language skill includes Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Betawi, American English, German, and some Spanish. She has a basic understanding of Arabic and Russian grammar and currently she learns Sanskrit.  She is a certified English into  Bahasa Indonesia translator for general topics from the Faculty of Letters, University of Indonesia,  and also a certified Bahasa Indonesia into English translator for general topics from the Faculty of Letters, University of Indonesia.
